Stanhope foreign policy rolls on

The Chief Minister seems to be thoroughly enjoying his overseas frolic. In his latest postcard he informs us that he’s established an embassy in Washington DC.

An agreement … to establish an ACT Industry office in Washington, for example, would provide a base for expanding Canberra firms.

He’s also signed an unspecified MOU (presumably on our behalf) with an Initiative!

Today he has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Greater Washington Initiative, recognising the growing links between the two cities.

Even happier news for our Chief Minister is finding fellow arboretum appreciators.

“I was interested in Washington’s tourism promotion programs, which have been highly successful. One of the key visitation sites is the National Arboretum.

White House, Capitol, Smithsonian, Air and Space Museum, Lincoln Memorial, National Cathedral, Mall. Been to all of them in Washington DC. I read the New York Times daily, the Washington Post at least once a week, I was last in the USA 18 months ago and own the first three series of The West Wing. This is the first I’ve heard of the National Arboretum. I will inquire of my american friends if they’ve ever heard of this thing.

Perhaps we can pressure them to stop invading other countries just like we are trying to get whaling banned on our other sister city then 😛

Or just swap some more invasive overseas weeds just so we can spend the next century trying to get rid of them..
