Winter in Canberra? Forget about the waistline.

For me, when the weather regularly hits sub-zero overnight, all bets are off when it comes to comfort food, particularly the sweet stuff. In my opinion, there isn’t much that beats a warm decadent dessert to take the chill off a cold winter’s night.

This week I am looking for Canberra’s best winter desserts. Whether you’re on the salted caramel bandwagon or a self-proclaimed chocoholic – I want to know where you go for a dessert that will warm you up from the inside out.

To vote, let me know who makes your favourite winter dessert in the comments below. I’ll try the two most popular places and let you know the verdict in next Monday’s Taste Off article.

[Ed: The above image is a stock photo, but if you know where to find something just as indulgent in Canberra, tell me about it. Please.]

It is delicious. There are a wide variety of desserts such as cakes, cookies, biscuits, pastries, cheesecakes, ice creams, pies, puddings, and candies available which can be prepared at home or purchased online. I always prefer wholesale cheesecake supplier for different desserts requirement as they are the best in what they do. For more info have a look here – http://www.loveandquiches.com

Frugii would be the place to go at any instance on any day 🙂

i like to make desserts at home. I am in love with apple crumble. After years of trial and error, i have perfected the art of making it 🙂

+ 2 for Koko Black

+1 for Frugii

and may I add the deserts at Pod Food in Pialligo. The chef seriously wants to be a Desert Queen.

Most restaurants the deserts are just an after thought because they have to have them, at Pod Food they are the climax of the meal. Don’t pass back the desert menu, don’t pass go…

…just indulge yourself.

Been a while since I have gone to Green Herring (and they have actually been open for service) but we have fond memories of sitting in front of the huge fireplace mid winter with the kids. The way they ruined Ginninderra Village with all the inappropriate surrounding developments has taken away the getaway atmosphere that made it special.

The Green Herring is at Gold Creek and offers an amazingly comforting experience with an 1840’s open log fire it is just beautiful. I have never had a dessert there I didn’t like. I am a confirmed Chocoholic and their Chocolate Mud Cake was magical as it was so dense but really light all at the same time.

I’m not much a warm dessert person and still prefer to eat cold/icecreamy delicious desserts in winter.

The only warm dessert I really eat are waffles. A few weeks ago I had a (free) waffle with a scoop of vanilla icecream and drizzled in chocolate at Caffe Cherry Beans (Gungahlin) as part of their dinner promotion (spend more than $20 and get a free waffle – not sure how long it is a thing) and it was delicious.

Where Koko Black is concerned, their Iced Chocolate is probably the best I’ve ever had. I’d considered a nice cold dessert for winter while sitting in the warmth inside.

The self serve ice-cream machine at the Burns Club bistro for me. My kids like dipping things in the chocolate fountain … like potatos and stuff. We don’t get out much.

good warm bread and butter pudding with salt caramel choc ice cream – but who serves something like this?

Hmm Frugii and Ricardos are my go to for sweets on any given day, but for a nice warm winter dessert I love Adore Tea.

Something about their treats whether hot or cold paired with a pot of tea is my ultimate winter warmer.

Anything from Koko Black in the city. It’s warm and cosy, smells divinely of chocolate, and the dessert menu is brilliant. Last time I went they offered a dessert sharing plate for two, which had 4 or 5 delicious chocolate dessert items.

Another vote for Koko Black’s dessert sharing plate. Truly indulgent.

The churros from San Churro in Woden are great – especially as part of a share plate. There’s a melted chocolate fondue plate that comes with churros, strawberries, banana, brownie and marshmallow that is particularly good.

The mini doughnuts with self-injecting jam at Capitol at QT Canberra. I’m always looking for new dessert haunts, so safe to say I’ll be following this post with interest.

A nice whisky at Hippo.
