What was the guy in the other car doing? He could have seen it coming jumped out of his car, into the other car and apply the brake before it slammed into the shop.
“So in summing up, I say to those present in mitigation of the events demonstrated on the video, that my client, despite having consumed a bathtub full of Bundy, a pound of cocaine, 157 tabs of E, and having already been being banned from driving for the previous twenty years, driving a stolen car, and putting the lives of the general public at great risk, would like it known that since his arrest he has found out that he has mental health issues, that daddy didn’t hug him enough, that he had a far worse upbringing than any of you lot, that his pension payment has been delayed, and that he didn’t mean to beat up his girlfriend prior to this event. His best mate Mully died in tragic circumstances, and he is still grieving for him. He is genuinely sorry and won’t do it again, and this time he really means that not like the other 79 times he’s said it in this court…”
Justice Refshauge; “Two months weekend detention, suspended for two years.”
My god! He was moving!! So lucky that other car wasn’t hit in the driver door – and no one was standing in the shop. What a twat.Looks like they need to put those bollards across the whole front of the store for the next DUI driver visiting. And yes, how unusual for it to be a disqualified driver with a history of drink driving…..
Did you see the person in the very end of the video inside the store? The arm waving outside the door? That was very close, as was the bowser being hit. Could have been much, much worse.
Surely he will claim that the accelerator pedal got stuck under the pile of stubbies that were on the floor.Refshauge’s response will be ‘i think you need a hug’!

No no, he’ll say he had a coughing fit. Hang on, that only works if you drive your kids into a dam on Father’s Day.
Fcuk me gently. How could that have happened? Even as pissed as he was, I simply can’t understand how he could have ended up driving at that speed all the way across a servo and into the shop. Makes no sense at all. It’s a miracle that nobody was killed. And it will be very interesting to see how this pans out in the courts.
Wheels are still spinning after the vehicle comes to a stop inside the store, indicating either the vehicle was still revving in gear or a lack of brakes. Bloody horrendous driving. For driving whilst disqualified and pissed, I expect they will be disqualified again. That’ll learn ‘em!
Bloody hell that could have been so much worse……..
So dangerous, actually swiping a pump. This really could have been a catastrophe. Idiot.
It could definitely have been worse, but not necessarily because of the pump. They are designed with that in mind as one possible situation they might encounter. There is usually only a very tiny amount of fuel in the bowser when not running, they aren’t under pressure and have to suck up fuel when filling a vehicle.
I have been in a service station when one was yanked out by a car driving off forgetting that they had the pump handle in the car (went to put fuel in, realised they didn’t have their wallet, hopped in car to go home and get it. Oops, luckily the pump hadn’t started). It was an older single pump that didn’t have the disconnecting hoses.
They’re not cheap to replace either, especially the multi-pump ones. I know that around 15 years ago they started at about $100k, not sure what they are worth now.
That said there are some very lucky people who didn’t get hit in that video. I wonder if the other driver even knew how close they came to getting hit at the time.

Wont be the brakes, modern vehicles don’t have brake failing issues or throttle sticking issues (despite the Prius US fault that wasn’t and the Ford Explorer in Melbourne might suggest).
The insurance company will run a mile ’cause of the BAC.
Bankrupt or say goodbye to the house? Bet the wife/husband isn’t going to be too happy.
Serve ‘em right, I reckon, this could have been so much worse. I hope the spend a good few years in the clink as well. I don’t think I could be a copper or an ambo, my first instinct upon reaching the driver would be to pull a Tony Soprano and suffocate them in their seat.

I often think this should be part of the anti DUI campaigns. People dont think they will kill someone, and in facts its relatively rare and the consequences are too remote for people to understand.
But say ‘sideswipe a BMW when drunk and that $15000 will come straight out of your pocket. You may need to sell your house. Years of effort gone because you took that extra drink’.
People understand this, how common little accidents can be and what it means to pay $15000

Probably a public servant…

The incident itself or Refshauge’s punishment?

Probably wearing a lanyard too.
The guy at the end of the video was just asking the driver if he wanted fries or was he interested in the 2 for $1 special on chocolate frogs…
Deckard said :
yeah… ’cause this was clearly the issue…
Down Down, front walls are down.

What a shame he survived.
That’s going to cost them a bomb.

Purely driver in this case I would say.
I saw some other footage where he actually tried to reverse to get out.
Tragic.

I think CGN uses the term too liberally and devalues it as a descriptor and an insult, but in this case the driver is undoubtedly a human P.O.S.

can they not get cameras with a capability of more than 2 frames per second?
