It was the weekend before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, because they’d all gone shopping. Sound familiar? If you’re looking for something to do this weekend other than buying and wrapping presents, you’ve come to the right place …

Christmas in the City
When: From tonight till December 24
Where: City Walk, Canberra City
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr will light Canberra’s 20m high Christmas tree tonight as part of the celebrations to mark the annual Christmas in the City Concert. Shannon Noll, Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band and The Brindabella Chorus will take to the stage tonight, and Santa will be along as well. There will be a series of food, drinks, music, handcrafted and arts markets and entertainment in and around City Walk between now and Christmas too. Charity Garage Sale
When: Saturday 17th 8:00am to 12:00pm
Where: 5 O’Grady Pl, Wanniassa
Do you like hunting for bargains? Or maybe you are struggling to find a Christmas gift for someone? Come along to this Charity Garage and help a good cause. There will be a huge range of items for sale. Everything from jewellery and kids toys to kitchenware will be available for low prices. All proceeds go towards funding projects that promote sustainability and self-reliance in poor communities through well-known charities such as The Fred Hollows Foundation, Caritas and Oxfam.

Wag Christmas Festival
When: Sunday 18th 5:30pm-10:00pm
Where: Anzac Park
The WAG Christmas Festival is on again this Sunday. The festival is a great event for the entire family and will have an incredible fireworks display to finish off the night. There will be kids’ activities including Mr and Ms Santa Claus, Food Stalls, live dance and music performances and Carol’s to help entertain everyone the whole night.

Queanbeyan Movie theatre

Queanbeyan Drive-In Movies
Where: Queanbeyan Showground Glebe Avenue, Queanbeyan
When: Friday 16th 6:00 pm Polar Express, Saturday 17th 9:00 pm – Fred Claus
Come enjoy a fun night with your family in the comfort of your own car. The Queanbeyan drive in movie theatre will be playing the classic Christmas films, Polar Express and Fred Claus to help your family get into the Christmas spirit.

Carols in the Park

Be a part of Carols in the Park and help to bring the entire community together to enjoy the Christmas season. There will be Live entertainment and even a visit from Santa for the kids to enjoy. So bring a picnic blanket and your singing voice to this family friendly night that everyone can enjoy.

Christmas at the Carillon
Where: National Carillon, Parkes
When: Sunday 18th 4:15pm to 7:00pm
Christmas at the Carillon gives Canberrans a unique opportunity to hear the Carillon differently to how they normally hear it every week. There will be special music and carols from the Canberra Harmony Chorus for everyone to enjoy. Brief free guided tours of the tower are available before the concert. No bookings necessary but spaces will be very limited. So come along and enjoy the best view of the lake there is.
