ACT Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Hanson will brave the winter conditions for another year, joining other Canberra leaders for the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout tonight.
“In my 22 years in the Army I have spent hundreds of nights outdoors sleeping rough and I have great sympathy for the hardships of the people who are forced to sleep on the streets every night,” Mr Hanson said today.
“Many people sleeping rough are very isolated and rely heavily on the support of charities like Vinnies. I ask Canberrans, if you can to please give to this wonderful organisation which has given so many people theassistance they need.
“This is an event which has brought out the goodwill amongst Canberra’s leaders and I’m sure this year it will make everyone reflect again on how tough the homeless have it sleeping rough,” Mr Hanson concluded.
