With your costumes sorted for this year, all you need is a spooky Halloween event to show it off. We’ve scoured the internet to bring you this special Halloween edition of ‘What’s on this weekend in Canberra’.
BOO gong: Halloween at Googong
Googong’s BOOgong Halloween event is sure to satisfy the whole family. Enjoy the atmosphere at Googong with roaming street performers and entertainers, trick-or-treating for the kids at the Googong Display Village (5pm-6.30pm), a haunted graveyard, giant spider web and a horrifying blood pond. Buses are available from the Queanbeyan Interchange at 4.15pm, and two buses departing Woden Interchange Bay 18 at 4pm.
Edit: We mistakenly saw the Spooky Cat Film Festival as being on this Saturday. Apologies! It is actually on 13 November. Hang onto those tickets.
Halloween Carnival Funhouse
Hellenic Club in the City, 13 Moore Street, Canberra
A bit of carnival fun sounds like the perfect way to spend your Halloween night. The Canberra Roller Derby League and Hellenic Club in the City present the Halloween Carnival Funhouse. Classic carnival games are transformed with Halloween twists, and you could win a prize for wearing a costume! The kids session runs from 4-6pm, with adults partying late into the night from 7pm. Tickets are available online now.
NFSA Fright Fest – All Nite Late Show
The National Film and Sound Archive is said to be one of Australia’s most haunted buildings, so it is only fitting that it is host to an all-night movie-thon for Halloween. Local ghost hunter Tim the Yowie Man kicks off the 12-hour evening after doors open at 9pm. The ticket price includes all-night tea and coffee and breakfast.
Smirnoff Halloween Carnevil
Mooseheads Pub & Nightclub, 105 London Circuit, Canberra
Mooseheads and Smirnoff will ensure that you are spooked and thoroughly scared with the Halloween Carnevil for the seventh year in a row. Performances by Rogue Dolls, illusions from Nyte Mare, and dancefloor frighteners keep the Halloween mood going all night long. A warning from Mooseheads: if you are easily scared, then this night is definitely not for you. Free entry all night long.
Knighty of the Living Dead
Knightsbridge Penthouse, 1/34 Mort St, Braddon
The Penthouse of Horrors is on again after its successful first year in 2014: the Knightsbridge will be transformed into a Halloween icon, the haunted house. Complete with ghosts, goblins and graveyards, the Knightsbridge is a must this Halloween. Starts at 8pm, more information available at their Facebook event (linked above).

Lucky’s Speakeasy (1 London Circuit, Canberra) is holding it’s own Halloween Party, complete with Magic Potion Cocktails. More details available at the Facebook page.
Hopscotch (5 Lonsdale St, Braddon) are bringing in the Advocates, Canberra’s favourite three-piece acoustic covers band, to serenade you into the night at their Hoppy Halloween Party. Win best dressed and you’ll receive some Hoppy Cash.
Bentspoke is turning into Bentspook for the Halloween celebrations. We hear there are prizes for best dressed.
