Canberra City Band Inc. will be hosting an open day at its rehearsal venue in Watson, on the 27th February.
The organisation, whose premier ensemble Canberra City Band are the seven-time Australian National Eisteddfod A Grade Concert Band champions, and last year’s runner-up at the Australian National Band Championships, are ushering in a new era. With a newly appointed Artistic Director; two new ensembles, Canberra City Juniors, launched in 2015, and a new youth development band launching in the coming months; the organisation is inviting the public and musicians of all ages, to rediscover the fantastic musical opportunities the community organisation offers as it enters its 91st year.
The day will be filled with music and fun, with open rehearsals and performances put on by different ensembles from the organisation. There will also be plenty of other festivities happening during the day, including a sausage sizzle and bouncy castle for the youngsters, ensuring something for everyone.
The day will be hosted by new Artistic Director Wyana O’Keeffe and organisation President, Simon Hukin. We hope to see as many people there to help us celebrate, and get to know the organisation better. Information for all of the ensembles, together with the soon to be launched Canberra City Youth Band, will be available including how to join, future gigs, and other general information.
So bring your instrument, or if you’re just a music lover, come down and have a look and a listen.
