A man died yesterday afternoon while at work at the construction site for the University of Canberra Hospital at Bruce.
Investigators surrounded a fallen crane at the scene last night.
ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigation Team are conducting a joint investigation into the man’s death with WorkSafe ACT and will prepare a report for the coroner.
Police say they were alerted to the incident on Aikman Drive around 6.40pm.
A police announcement about the death posted on Facebook late last night has attracted dozens of expressions of sympathy for the family and friends of the man, and a call for a section of the new hospital to be named in his memory.
“Let’s hope a ward of the new hospital is named after the worker that lost their life,” wrote Matt Mayfair.
“Thoughts are with the family.”
The University of Canberra Public Hospital is due to open in 2018. It is being constructed by Brookfield Multiplex, which has been at work on the site since early this year.
