Last night, Canberra experienced the second night of FASHFEST 2016, the proverbial meat in the event’s three night fashion sandwich, if you will. And damn, was that meat tasty!
The first show of the evening, PRAXIS, saw a number of Canberra Centre retailers showcase their wares with Cue, Country Road, Veronika Maine, Seed Heritage and Saba all on the line up.
Cue’s collection was my favourite of the Canberra Centre offerings, with clean, flirty silhouettes adorned with floral and polka-dot prints. The hair and make-up was also a standout, taking inspiration from the ’60s and ’70s. Classic winged eyeliner was complemented by neutral lips, while hair was all bouncy, loose (but still structured) curls.
The second show of the night was entitled LIMINA, and presented plenty of fun and experimental designs for the audience to sink their teeth into.
Zilpah Tart kicked off the second show with flowy dresses that were digitally printed with natural landscapes. Each look was accessorised with Peony n’ Pearl’s stunning nature-inspired accessories.
Charly Thorn showed a collection that was all ’80s power-dressing crossed with Cleopatra-inspired gold accents.
Megan Cannings’ romantic gowns were a floaty vision of soft colours, lace and intricate leaf and flower detailing. The teased up-dos complemented the looks well, conjuring images of Marie Antoinette and long walks along blustery moors a la Wuthering Heights all at once.
Are we in an episode of the Bachelorette? Where is Osher when you need him? Bring out the roses Osher!! But seriously, M.J. Bale did a bang up job of outfitting a slew of handsome men in dapper suits.
Naomi Peris showed a wedding line fit for Daenerys Stormborn if ever there was one. The designs ranged from classic with a twist (think flower strewn capes) to experimental (think lace leggings worn under a half-tutu). Makeup was dewy and goddess-like (someone find out what highlighter they were using PLEASE), and statement jewel-encrusted headpieces added an extra dose of interest and sparkle.
The Canberra Vintage Collective (made up of Christian James, Hummingbird Vintage, KarensKloset and Yellow Canary Clothing) was one of the most fun shows, with classic vintage looks modelled on swing dancers, who delighted the audience with an energetic performance.
