Are you interested in a job on Canberra’s ‘City Presentation’ team? If so, put away your marketing degree and your PowerPoint slides and brush up on your lawn mowing skills because this job is a bit different than the name suggests.
Rather than selling our city to the world, recruits to the City Presentation team are tasked with sprucing up Canberra and making sure our surroundings look their best.
The good news is that if this type of career interests you, there are actually 12 permanent positions currently on offer as well as up to 20 temporary vacancies.
The pay is advertised as being between $47,087 and $51,420 a year and you’re promised a lot of variety as well as the opportunity to work in the great outdoors.
According to the Director of City Presentation at Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS), Stephen Alegria, the City Presentation branch maintains the look of the city and its surroundings.
It is responsible for the planning and management of parks and the public domain which includes lakes, street trees and public open space and city places.
“If you are a parent looking to return to the workforce, are just starting your career or want to try something new away from a desk, a job in our City Presentation team is a great opportunity for you,” Mr Alegria said.
“No two days will be the same and you’ll undertake a wide range of duties from cleaning to mowing and maintenance of garden beds.
“During recruitment, we look for people who are enthusiastic, passionate, have great interpersonal skills and take pride in their work,” he said.
“We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a culturally diverse workforce and inclusive workplace.
“I strongly encourage women, people from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, and people with disability to apply.”
Mr Alegria said that anyone interested in the job should go along to one of the two information sessions where they will be provided with an overview of the City Presentation branch and the positions including working conditions and wages.
The first information session will be held in the Community Room at the Gungahlin Library on Tuesday, May 29 at 4.30 pm.
The second information session will be held in the Community Room at the Tuggeranong Library on Wednesday, May 30 at 4.30 pm.
