Well VG I can appreciate and respect you have a very different view point, having attended so many accidents, I can only imagine you have chosen a profession where this is commonplace. I however did not. For what it is worth I am more than “grown up” and I have worked with my fair share of habitual offenders of both serious and stupid crimes. Im not quite sure where you get the idea I was somehow making excuses – I assure you I was not. What he did was completely reckless, and stupid. I drive on that road every day and if I had left Canberra earlier I would have been in almost the same place at the same time and the outcome may have been very different. I dont make excuses for idiotic behaviour.

Michael made a conscious choice to get behind the wheel yes, however being in the state he was in, that judgement was completely impaired. I am not the kind of person that would usually make any comment, the only point I was attempting to make was that it really is ridiculous how over the top the media gets. Regardless of your profession everyone is entitled to a measure of privacy, and I have no doubt that Michael is about to get his fair share of lessons on actions & consequences.

Like you VG I have never been caught or more importantly have never driven after drinking. But I am sure like myself at some point in your life you have made at least 1 poor choice, if not then let me just say how truely humbled I am to be in the presence of perfection. I do however think it is safe for you to put your bag of rocks away 🙂

I think it is important to keep things in perspective, one bad choice should not affect an otherwise unblemished character. We are not talking about a persistant repeat offender, we are talking about 1 lapse in judgement.

As a society we need to stop seeking perfection in others. The reality is that every person has their own individual flaws. The important thing is to take the lessons we learn from the choices we make and apply them to the choices we make in the future.

If you are genuinely remorseful for your actions the evidence will be in the choices you make from this point on. I look forward to watching Michaels career unfold and wish him all the best as I am sure he has a very bright future.

That’s just beautiful. I have been the first on the scene of hundreds of accidents. ‘Lapse of judgement’? Eff me, grow up and stop making excuses for idiotic behaviour. 0.209 is not a ‘lapse of judgement’. 0.06 might be. 0.209 involves a conscious effort in getting behind the wheel when hammered, so don’t run that bollocks.

Ask Dave Gallop what he thinks when players try to run the old, ‘I never wanted to be a role model’. His answer ‘You don’t have a choice’. If you choose a public lifestyle you bear the consequences.

As a Raiders fan, if MP has gone so far over on DUI, bin him from the Raiders’ staff. If not, we should all apologise.

Don’t for a minute think anyone condones drunk drivers. As much as we love footy, it’s only a game. I’d lost my own faith in the Raiders, but their stance with Carney – as much as it hurts us now – earned my respect.

I am sure that you have all driven whilst you have been drinking or been a passenger in a car where the driver was influenced.
Nobody was hurt in this.
Yes he was lucky and I can guarentee he will learn from this.
He has a stronf family base that will be there for him.
And the club is supporting him.
How many chances did Todd Carney get?
I know for a fact that a lot of the things he did didn’t even make the papers.
I just love how quick you were all to compare him to Todd Carney.
Todd has a lot of issues and is working through them.
Mick is nowhere close to being how Todd was.
