Reid dirt car park, what a Joke ACT GOV

You’re on an internet forum. This isn’t the UNICEF head office. If people want to complain about fairly trivial things, this is the place to do it without having other people jump down their throats.

I mean, seriously, what does it solve pointing out there is always someone worse off than them? Well, yeah, there obviously are but no one is going to Africa and directly complaining to these children about their parking woes.

That’s why people come on these things, to discuss issues relevant to people in this community.

Hey man, stop complaining about people complaining. There are kids in Africa dying, don’t you know? Maybe you can cancel your net connection and use the money to save them? Or sell your computer? Or use the time you spend here more wisely?

There are options bud.

“Kids in Africa” is the equivalent of comparing people to Nazi’s on forums. Why even be here if that is your go to answer for everything? Front page, someone asks how they can deal with a neighbour that won’t sort out their yard and it’s attracting mice and rats. Boo hoo. People are dying in the world. I mean, I realise that gives you something to post on every . . . single . . . friggin’ . . . topic here, but c’mon chuckles, how lame is *that*? Is that what you do every day? Jump on here to remind people how trivial their problems compared to how crap it is in another country? You must be a barrel of laughs at dinner parties eh?

Well, that was a surprise. Here’s one I prepared earlier.

So, basically, because there is a kid dying in Africa, every other complaint/situation in the world is invalidated?

– It’s not one kid. It’s millions of kids, all around the world, and their entire communities. Starving, homeless, tortured, sick, raped, murdered. Yes, as a matter of fact, your parking woes do pale into whipped vanilla cream of bullsh.t in a snowstorm in light of their
plight.

– Are you really trying to claim that ‘potholes in carpark’ is the same class of problem as ‘parents killed’ or ‘born in remote Indigenous community’ or ‘quadruple amputation’? Really? You thought long and hard, and that’s what you want to bring to the table?

If you want to complain about your parents being killed, or your limbs being blown off, or being stuck on our society’s lowest rung through an accident of birth, or your kids getting cancer from that chemical plant upstream from your water supply, you go right ahead, because that’s just awful. Seriously, that’s some heinous stuff for somebody to have to live with. Except:

– the odds of any of you being a black amputee orphan drinking out of a creek are pretty f*cking low, wouldn’t you say, Mr Office Worker With A Kluger Who Walks From The Carpark On His Two Perfectly Good Legs?

– nobody here is complaining about anything remotely like that, are they, friend? It’s all ‘OMG turning arrows’ and ‘OMG it won’t take
notes?’ and ‘OMG 80 zone?’

Can’t pay your mortgage? Kid in Africa. Parents killed in drink driving accident by moron? Kid in Africa. Education of Indigenous Australians? Kid in Africa. You lose both arms and both legs? Kid in Africa.

I agree that the cost of parking in Canberra is hardly on the same scale, but c’mon Chuckles, if that is going to be your pithy little platitude, you hereby give up your right to even vaguely raise a complaint about anything.

While I agree – rising cost of parking is an inevitability (even though you pay as much in that shitty carpark as you do in other carparks about town that are decently paved)… I get sick of this ‘you’d pay more if you lived in X’ argument. We don’t live there. If that’s a valid retort, then you could also say that no one should be able to get on this forum and complain about anything at all, as in some countries they don’t have enough food and water to go around, and people die of starvation and easily preventable diseases every day.

Woody, I think you missed the point of Amanda’s post. We know that there are people worse off in the world than we are but then that’s not the point is it, and it’s not the debate winner that some people think it is.

After all, if we can’t come on the internet and complain, then what else is it for (aside from porn, of course)

Now there’s a policy I can get behind. Next time you’re b*tching about having to pay $7 for the privilege of taking your expensive 4×4 offroad before enjoying a leisurely stroll to your office job paying tens of thousands of dollars a year, think about how lucky you are that this is one of your biggest problems.

The dirt carpark in Tuggeranong (Cowlishaw\Eileen Good) is about to go to be jacked up from being free to $4/day too.
You wouldn’t believe the grumbling that now is going on from people who didn’t realise that they were parking on Private Leased Territory Land (IE: Not Public Land) but still started complaining about how much their cars were tearing up the surface or getting stuck when they parked on mud in the rain.
Most people were willing to accept it as a given that parking in mud = muddy cars and occasionally getting stuck.

Sure, its fixed for everyone now, but blame the price increases on the people who expected more from an empty patch of dirt in a mixed commercial\residential zone than somewhere to leave your car unattended for a few hours.

ie: You start talking about how you want quality landscaped dirt to park your car on, you pay for quality landscaped dirt to park your car on. You find an acceptable place to park your car for free conveniently close to work, you shut your mouth and treat it with the respect it deserves.

(Or start complaining about bigger things, since clearly people are listening…)
