Residents urged to stay alert after small grassfire breaks out in Murrumbidgee River

UPDATE: The grassfire has been extinguished. Firefighters remain on scene to patrol the area.

A small grassfire has started at the Murrumbidgee River near the Stony Creek Nature Reserve but is being controlled by firefighters at the scene.

The Emergency Services Agency has placed an ‘Advice’ level alert on the fire and warned people that the remote area of Mt Stromlo could be affected.

The fire is currently 20 metres by 20 metres in size and is easy to control under current weather conditions, the ESA said.

People in Wright, Denman Prospect and Coombs are urged to stay up to date and continue to monitor conditions through the ESA.

No properties are under threat at this time.
