There have been significant advances in motoring technology over the past years, but chances are that you still have to check your car’s fluid levels and the most important of these are undoubtedly oil and water.
Checking your oil and water in your car is important to avoid costly maintenance or potential breakdowns. Will Caldwell from Canberra Toyota walks you through the process.
To check your oil:
1. Pop open the hood of your car.
This is usually triggered by a lever or button located in your car and then a tab usually located near the bonnet or in the front grill. Get down to look as it is often hard to spot.

2. To check your oil, locate the dipstick.
This will usually have a yellow handle, which you can easily pull up.
3. Clean the dipstick with a cloth or paper towel.
Wipe off any oil that is on the dip stick. This is important so you can get an accurate read of your oil level.

4. Dip the dipstick back into the cavity, and remove to check oil level.
You will be able to see where the oil reaches on the end of the dipstick, which will be marked with levels. You want the oil to be up to the highest level marked, which is the correct level. Clean the dipstick one more time, and return to its original position.

To refill your windscreen wiper fluid:
While your bonnet hood is open, you’ll find the windscreen wiper water reservoir, usually at the front or side of the engine bay. Check the label on the cap to be sure. Remove the cap, and fill up as much water as needed. You can add windscreen cleaner fluid here as well, if you want to. Place the cap back, and test the spray to make sure the fluid is coming through.
