A media release has just come in (possibly 16 minutes early at 11:44pm) announcing the Brumbies and Raiders are joining forces to stem the tide of red ink:
In a World first, the Canberra Raiders and ACT Brumbies have agreed to merge both clubs into a single organisation.
Coaches and players will remain with their current teams and continue to play in both competitions.
Executive and board members will be asked to reapply for their positions in the new organisation.
Both teams will continue to compete in elite Rugby League and Rugby Union, with a combined brand and administration.
Reduced costs through rationalising the Executive CANBERRA Super Club and Board by over 50% will be passed on to fans. Prices are Expected to be cut by half.
Cheaper tickets to games, and cheaper beer at games. Financial members of each team will receive a 50% refund for the remainder of the year.
Team sponsors and advertisers will benefit from the merger with both gaining exposure from the two different codes.
