Meet Asha Clementi, the young female leader who at just 18 years old is a gender equality advocate for teenage girls. Last month, Asha represented the National Council of Women Australia (NCWA) at the United Nations Commission on Status on Women (UN CSW) event in New York. Asha’s participation at the UN CSW event was made possible by Callida Consulting, who strongly support motivated and aspiring individuals within the Canberra community.

Meet Asha Clementi, the young female leader who at just 18 years old is a gender equality advocate for teenage girls. Nina Gbor caught up with Asha to talk about her recent trip to New York where she represented the National Council of Women Australia (NCWA) at a United Nations Commission event.

Asha is a Co-Founder of The Girls Leadership Network (TGLN), a not-for-profit Australian-based initiative designed to empower teenage girls to believe in themselves and achieve their goals. Callida Consulting’s senior female consultants are also involved with the TGLN as part of their leadership team, helping to inspire and guide teenage girls in their career-making decisions.
Whilst studying an undergraduate degree in International Relations at the ANU, Asha organises and helps run the TGLN events. TGLN holds several interactive forums for its high school-aged members to develop leadership skills and interact with like-minded individuals. Asha works with the other leadership team members to create amazing opportunities for young women both during the monthly sessions and out of session. Participants have had the opportunity to hear from a range of great speakers, visited local embassies, attended workshops, gained support accessing grants and widened their network throughout Canberra.
Entry into TGLN is available to girls in Year 11 and 12 within the ACT and surrounding areas. In 2017, the 35 inaugural members had the opportunity to meet and listen to inspiring female speakers like: Michelle Heyman Olympian, LGBTI Sports Personality of the Year 2017 and Caitlin Figueredo, Youth activist to name a few.
Asha is one of the youngest members of the NCWA. Barbara Baikie, President of NCWA, believes in the importance of supporting and nurturing young women as they are the future. Speaking about Asha, Barbara said “NCWA is very proud of Asha and the way she conducted herself at UN CSW. She met with other international members of the International Council of Women including some other young women from the UK. She will bring all this experience back to us to benefit from. She will make presentations for the NCWA both at the local and national level.”
Asha’s experience at the UN CSW was both motivating and thought-provoking. Asha is now very excited to take the main ideas from her trip and implement them into TGLN, specifically looking to broaden the initiative to include more rural women. As a business committed to creating more opportunities for women, Callida Consulting is very proud of Asha and all she has achieved thus far.
