A violent robbery inside a convenience store in Civic was caught on security cameras.
It was the first of two robberies the same offenders committed on the one night, police allege.
Two males went inside the London Circuit store wearing black hooded jumpers and face masks at around 9:20 pm on Monday (3 March), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
They allegedly began making demands to the shop assistant before grabbing his mobile phone.
When the shop assistant tried to get his phone back, the pair allegedly punched him several times in the face.
They allegedly stole items from the store and behind its counter before fleeing.
Then just half an hour later, at around 9:55 pm, a man was walking through the Australian National University (ANU) campus when it is alleged the same two males approached him and demanded money.
The pair allegedly pinned him to the ground, stomped on his head and stole his phone.
Police alleged that when the man tried to get his phone back, the pair continued to assault him before running from the scene.
Bystanders contacted police and officers arrived a short time later, allegedly spotting the two males who had fled.
“Police searched the area and officers located one of the males – the 16-year-old boy – who was subsequently arrested,” a police spokesperson alleged.
The 16-year-old was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery in company and was scheduled to face the ACT Children’s Court on Tuesday (4 March).
Police are seeking to identify the second male allegedly involved in the robberies.
If you have information regarding the male’s identity, you can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Quote reference number 7987530.
