Aces High as Vikings Suffer Last Minute Defeat

Yesterday the East Coast Aces snatched a last minute victory from the Canberra Vikings in their ARC game at Carrara Stadium. A lightning quick try to the Vikings Matt “Roff” Carraro within the opening minute was a omen for the first half. The Vikings continued to play a solid game leading 28 – 18 at half time, and looked to be a certainty, but East Coast had an ace up their sleeve. Led by almost-Wallabies Rodzilla Blake and Walkabout Walker, a cascade of tries and conversions pulled the Aces almost level with the Vikings, before a last minute converted try to the Aces sealed the game. Brumbies Rugby have a detailed report of
the game
. If only ABC would broadcast the more interesting (Vikings) games instead of the ho-hum games of the Sydney teams, but I guess that’s what gets them better ratings.

Unfortunately the Vikings now drop to 3rd on the ARC table. We’ll have to put in a good effort against the Sydney Fleet next Sunday at Canberra Stadium to keep in the top 4. Hopefully coach Nick Scrivener will give them a solid training run for more that 60 minutes this week.

Johnny Wilkinson carried off the training paddock by stretcher. In doubt for 1st WC match! Go team!
