Indymedia have a report that Ordo Templi Orientis, a group of masons who follow the writings of Aleister Crowley, have won a defamation case in a Canberra court against Dyson and Vivian Legg who had published information about this group on the internet.

The wikipedia has an sympathetic profile on the group and also Aleister Crowley.

From the Wikipedia:

In 1934 Crowley was declared bankrupt after losing a court case in which he sued the artist Nina Hamnett for calling him a black magician in her 1932 book, Laughing Torso. In addressing the jury, Mr. Justice Swift said: “I have been over forty years engaged in the administration of the law in one capacity or another. I thought that I knew of every conceivable form of wickedness. I thought that everything which was vicious and bad had been produced at one time or another before me. I have learnt in this case that we can always learn something more if we live long enough. I have never heard such dreadful, horrible, blasphemous and abominable stuff as that which has been produced by the man (Crowley) who describes himself to you as the greatest living poet.”

How times change.

after reading the crap on that webpage, im not surprised they were sued, and lost.

personal responsibility is the key. you just cant make unsubstantiated claims like the ones on that webpage.

i do like how every bizarre conspiracy area excluding the kennedy assasination was tied together.

IMO Crowley was a schizophrenic nutjob with a god complex BUT from reading about the case on their own site the Leggs are just as nuts and have defamed OTO and a bunch of others.

I’m not encouraging any one to go join some semi religious/magical secret society but don’t go throwing away your cash to help out paranoid conspiracy theorists either.

As a free person, entitled to my own opinion, I have read the wiki reference and believe in my own mind that Crowley was a nutter.

What’s the problem with that ?

Never trust an organisation where half of it’s members are in the United States.
