ACT Indoor Cricket side reaches finals

By Cameron 29 June 2007 3

The ACT Rockets have reached the finals of the Australian Open Championships being held in Toowoomba, Queensland.

“The side has done enough to put ourselves in contention,” says coach Steve Hart. “A tough game against New South Wales in the minor semi final and then the winner of the major semi final between Queensland and Western Australia will showcase the preparation and hard work our side has put in over the last six months.”

The Rockets have a rich history in the Australian Open Championships, including a National League win in 2000 and a winning culture that has extended to finals appearances in five of the last six national championships.

Upcoming finals matches:

Friday June 29th at 4pm:
Game A: Minor Semi Final: ACT Rockets vs NSW Blues
Game B: Major Semi Final: QLD Lightning vs WA Wolves

Friday June 29th at 8pm:
Game C: Preliminary Final: Winner (A) vs Loser (C)

Saturday June 30th at 1:30pm
Grand Final: Winner (B) vs Winner (C)

So much for that request…

In any event, the Rockets went down in the Grand Final to Western Australia in an extremely close match.

The Rockets needed four runs from the final delivery and hit the nets required to do it but the ball was caught, leaving the Rockets 8 runs short of their target.

Admins: would appreciate if you use this comment as an “UPDATED” section in the main article.

The ACT Rockets have defeated New South Wales in the Minor Semi Final 81 runs to 32.

Better still, the Rockets then followed that up with a fantastic performance against defending champions Queensland in the Preliminary Final defeating them 122 runs to 67.

As a result, the Rockets have made the mens Grand Final of the Australian Open Indoor Cricket Championships for the first time in 21 years of sending sides.

The Rockets will take on Western Australia at 1:30pm AEST on Saturday June 30th. Live text coverage at
