It’s been a remarkable 12 months for Canberra Cavalry skipper Robbie Perkins as he clocks up milestone after milestone.

Coming off a record-breaking season, claiming the club’s all-time home run record, Robbie has continued to shine through the 2024-25 ABL season.

Fresh from starring for Team Australia in the Premier12 competition in Taiwan, he reached a significant career high of 350 ABL games in November.

His professionalism and work ethic are the keys to his success.

He has the ability to lift his teammates through his actions.

As he explains, his mindset is to ensure no stone is left unturned.

“Whether it’s the first innings or the game is tied up in the 9th, I approach the situation the same way,” Robbie explains.

“It’s about trusting your abilities on the field and relying on the years of experience and preparation I have put in.”

Robbie’s intense focus is one of the key reasons why the Cavalry are championship contenders.

Co-owner Adrian Dart says the captain is leading by example.

“We are a great team this season. Once we get it together consistently, we have the ability to beat anybody,” Adrian says.

“One of the reasons why we have the potential to be on the top is the form of Robbie and Cam Warner. I’ve never seen them play so consistently. Robbie is in the form of his life, and Cam’s versatility is coming to the fore.”

Dart says coach Jim Bennett has put in place a program that is obviously working.

“The club has a whole new direction this season with a totally different approach. The standards on and off the ballpark have lifted. For the first time, we have a full-time coaching staff with four internationals and one local coach.”

Adrian Dart continues, “Jim is overall in charge, but this year with dedicated bench, pitching, hitting and fielding coaches assisting him, he knows that all facets of the game are a focus all of the time. It is certainly showing this year.”

Currently sitting in 4th place on the ABL ladder, the Cavalry have set their sights on the upcoming home series against the second-placed Melbourne Aces at the EPC Solar Ball Park.

A series win would set things up nicely for the following round against the Sydney Blue Sox.

Under normal circumstances, the planned departure of two of the Japanese imports before the Sydney series would be disruptive, but Dart says that won’t be an issue this time around because the Cavalry has made a significant investment in their replacements.

The home series against the Melbourne Aces on 19-20 December, with a doubleheader on 21 December, will not only provide a guide to the Calvary’s championship prospects, but a chance to witness the likes of local favourites Robbie Perkins and Cam Warner in career-best form.
