A man has been accused of giving one teenager alcohol and then strangling her into unconsciousness, as well as assaulting a second teen.

A teenage girl went over to the home of her 40-year-old male relative in Kambah with her friend on Tuesday afternoon (25 March), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

It is alleged the man gave her alcohol, then he strangled her unconscious later that evening while her friend tried to intervene.

When the teenagers tried to leave the home, the man allegedly threw one of them against a bench and pushed the other against a wall.

“Both managed to escape and were treated nearby by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

The man was arrested and charged with one count of choking and two counts of assault.

He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday (26 March).
