Continuing with the non-Civic Cheap Eats theme this week, I made a beeline for Dickson where I had lunch at My Rainbow Dreams.
My Rainbow Dreams is a vegetarian café, but don’t be put off if you’re a self-confessed meat lover – there is something for everyone here.
The menu has a really good range of food, four different types of burger (including haloumi!), wraps and rolls, curries, soups, plus a cake cabinet full of lots of sweet treats. All the meals are priced really affordably, all coming in at under $15.00 except for one – the Rainbow Breakfast for $17.00.
I ordered the curry of the day which was a vegetable korma ($10.50 regular size – $12.50 for the large), and my partner ordered the Indian spiced lentil burger ($10.50). The food was delivered to us quite quickly even though there were a fair few customers in the café.
I don’t think I’ve seen my partner inhale something so quickly. He is what some would call a ‘picky’ eater and I didn’t think he would like the burger but he loved it. I wish I had asked him for bite! My curry was good, it came with the most delicious raita. Even though I got the smaller of the two available servings, it was more than enough to fill me up. If I could improve it at all, I would give the curry a stronger flavour. The flavour that was there was good, I just think with a bit of extra chilli or something it could be so much better.
One of the things I really liked about My Rainbow Dreams is that you can arrive at any time and order a meal (except for the hour before close), whereas I find a lot of cafes will only serve lunch between 12-2, and if you’re there by 1.45pm you’ve missed out. I will definitely be visiting My Rainbow Dreams again, I think I’ll be ordering the spiced lentil burger next time!
