Education Minister Chris Bourke has put out a media release on yesterday’s FOI release of critical incidents at schools:
A review of critical incidents at ACT public schools shows reports have remained relatively stable over a two year cycle. The documents are available from the Open Government FOI page covering critical incidents from May 1 2011 to July 25 2012.
Critical incidents at schools cover a wide range of issues from medical emergencies, accidents, intruders, violence or threatened violence and precautionary measures such as lockdowns.
There have been 41 incidents in public schools in the past year (1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012), compared to 37 in the previous 12 months. Incidents in non-government schools are not reported.
Each day, more than 40,000 students attend ACT public schools. The safety of all of the ACT’s public and non-government school students is of paramount importance to me.
