Here is some advice kindly provided by the Eurobodalla Council:

Dear Sir,

I have just received your message regarding the condition of the water at Durras. In relation to your concerns I advise that:

Council regularly carries out Beachwatch testing at Durras and on Wednesday 27 December 2006 this was carried out at Cookies Beach (adjacent to Murramarang Resort). The sampling did not identify any bacterial contamination of this area.

Without any photos or further information, it is difficult to say exactly what you have observed. The green sludge is most likely to be algae which has been blown/washed up onto the shoreline. It is highly unlikely to have been effluent sludge.

All of the housing in this area is serviced by Septic systems (of varying types) – there is no sewer system currently in this area.

I would suggest that if you have any reason to be concerned about the state of the water, that you should seek an alternate swimming venue whilst those conditions exist.

I hope this assists you with your concerns.

Regards

mate, the best thing that ever happened to the South Coast was … Canberra!

“The South Coast is part of the AC F…ing T”

Well the sleepy hamlet of Jervis Bay and its immediate surrounds are, but being a Yogi doesn’t mean the coast is your birthright

Slightly off topic.

How can Durras be south of South Durras?

Listen you turkeys … not every post has to be entertaining in a way that would excite the interest of those with an attention span of a few seconds ie you lot! Some posts clearly originate from those with … with a social conscience! The South Coast is part of the AC F…ing T! There might be someone out there … now concentrate here … who has knowledge about the matter in question they could share (only with me, it seems) but there has been an exchange of information which is part of the raison d’etre (its spanish for purpose) of this site. You get your fill of drugs, sex and rock and roll posts so … be a little more tolerant!

i just assumed the mods let it pass because luca had been whinging about it in the comments of other threads.

Like I said before
Maybe a bit of background info would have been good rather than just saying :Here is some advice kindly provided by the Eurobodalla Council

In saying so – I have been goign to “Bundilla” at N.Durras for years and never had any water quality issues.

Maybe its just posting ettiquite.

In any case – it goes past moderators on its way to RiotACT – so if there was any dramas they would have ironed them out.

Lets all stop looking like stereotypical winey canberrans complaining about everything

Oh hang on – we are 🙁

I’m not disagreeing but it’s not like it can’t be understood.

i still don’t see the point of just posting it without some back story.

I think the letter provides some context, enough to get the gist.

Jey, that may be correct. But it is such a random thing to post with no backstory.

thinking about this… it could just be that through the storm that tore through the Sydney to Hobart yachts this month has just ripped up sea grass, sea weed, etc, and it has just strated to float into shore, strated decomposing and has just simply gone feral.

It could be worse, a couple of hundred blue bottles tend to be more of a hindernace that rotting sea weed etc in my eyes.

what, and i do mean this nicely, the fuck does this have to do with anything?

a lot of Canberran’s holiday at the coast and would like to know about this kind of thing

If your at Durras go to Depot Beach – its sheltered for swimming – and has good rocks to the left for fishing off

Still has to be better than swimming in LBG????

All due respect, but if are honestly complaining about sludge on a beach, opposite a caravan park, after some pretty savage storms, perhaps it is best you stay inside.

It is the Ocean my friend. Within the Eurobodalla district I am sure that one of the thousands of other beaches will be fine for you to stick a toe into.

Filthy luca?

If you really have to be told. Its a convenient place for matters of public concern to be heard. Particularly if you you are not a public figure and have not got access to the media

So it’s HARMLESS gross green sludge – that must be a comfort! eeoow.
