Police allege a drink driver crashed his car before he returned a blood-alcohol reading almost eight times over the legal limit.
Releasing details today, ACT Policing said the Audi SUV was travelling along Adelaide Avenue and Yamba Drive before crashing off the road at the roundabout as Melrose Drive in Hughes around 10:20 am on 8 June.
The police officers who arrived thought the driver appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
He was taken to hospital and provided a blood sample for testing, which allegedly returned a result of 0.392.
Police later issued the 55-year-old from Forrest with an immediate driving suspension notice and he will be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court to face a high range drink-driving charge at a later date.
A police spokesperson said they received additional evidence about the incident after a member of the public submitted footage of the Audi SUV allegedly driving erratically on the morning before the collision via ACT Policing’s Dangerous Driving online submission form.

The ACT had its sixth road fatality for 2024 earlier this week when a 47-year-old motorcycle rider died after a collision between his vehicle and a light truck in Holt on Tuesday (18 June).
