A man has been arrested over a police chase that ended after he allegedly used a stolen car to ram two police vehicles.

ACT Policing said officers saw an allegedly stolen grey Audi Q3 parked on the shoulder of the Barton Highway in Mitchell with its engine running at around 5 am on Tuesday (24 September).

Officers deployed tyre deflation devices before they approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and found a man asleep in the driver’s seat.

When they tried to arrest him, he allegedly drove off towards Northbourne Avenue, crossing the median strip and driving into oncoming traffic.

Police gave chase and followed the Audi into the city.

Then, at around 5:45 am, the driver allegedly drove into a marked police vehicle parked at the intersection of Macarthur Avenue and Northbourne Avenue.

He allegedly rammed the vehicle again, then reversed into a second police vehicle that tried to block his path.

It is alleged a 30-year-old man from Hackett was pulled from the Audi and searched, with officers locating a substance believed to be methamphetamine on him.
