Fire in Monash

4:05pm Wednesday 15 December 2010 – House fire at Monash ACT Fire Brigade on scene of a house fire on Upton Crt, Monash.

Fire has been extinguished.

Three pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van and the Hazmat support unit extinguished the fire.

No one home at time of fire with extensive fire, heat and smoke damage to the majority of the house.

No neighbours properties have been damaged.

ACT Fire Brigade investigating the cause and will shortly hand over the scene to ACT Policing.

Estimated cost of damage $250,000.

UPDATE: And now ACT Policing is asking for witnesses:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a house fire in Monash which occurred this afternoon (15 December).

About 3.18pm, police attended the scene of a fire at 40 Upton Street, Monash after numerous triple zero calls were made by members of the public.

The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters from the ACT Fire Brigade and investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the fire.

Damage to the property has been extensive.

Police have established a crime scene and will be maintaining a static guard until a forensic review can be undertaken.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around that time, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
