Apparently it’s official – George Gregan really IS to blame, and has been canned as the Wallabies captain by the ARU, according to the ABC

Stinks I say…

[ED – Been on the cards for a while and you can expect to see George back in charge after the farce of “co-captaincy” has played out]

Phil Waugh mediocre at start of Super 14 then injured for most of it.

George Smith wins player of series award..

How can Phil Waugh be a captain when he should be on the bench at best..

Blue jumper makes a big difference..

Gregan was bloody good over the Super 14 this season.

Sshhh…it’s just a ploy to fool the rest of the world.

Come the World Cup, normal logic will be resumed.

Giteau was only mediocre at half doing what a half is paid to do, get the ball to either fly half, inside centre, or the bloody great forward steaming off his shoulder.

Anything else is secondary and Giteau was poor for all the occasional twinkle-toed exposition.

All the SANZAR coaches seem to be willfully ignoring the form in the recently completed completed competition, I suspect it’s in an effort to justify their positions and the French and poms must think it’s hilarious.

.. that last thing you said.

The bizarre preponderance of Waratahs in the selected group suggests one of two (or possibly three) things. Either the ARU think that 2007, including the World Cup, is a write-off or they are trying to reward some marginal/disappointing people in these not-so-important matches so they won’t get all hissy if they don’t get a spot in the WC squad. Or, just possibly, the ARU is a bunch of clueless jerks who will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes.

I loved these 2 bits

“He has been increasingly criticised over the past few years for his performances”

“Matt Giteau made a brilliant impression at scrum half.”

You mean the performance as the best Australian halfback?

Yes Matt Giteau played well at halfback, (it wasn’t hard to shine when everyone else was playing like crap on that tour) but he is still the best inside centre available.

So we drop the best performing halfback, for the best performing inside centre, and replace the Git with who, Matt Dunning??
