Goodwin Aged Care Services is now managing six retirement villages across the ACT and NSW South Coast following the recent acquisition of a new facility in Weston Creek.

The longest-standing and largest aged care and retirement living provider in the nation’s capital, Goodwin has added Araluen Retirement Village to its stable, renaming the facility Goodwin Village Araluen.

Goodwin acquired Araluen from previous operator, Canberra Retirement Villages Pty Ltd, which managed the village for more than 20 years.

“It made strategic sense for us bringing Araluen into the Goodwin family as this aligns with our strategy of expanding the provision of services to a wider range of seniors in our community,” Goodwin’s CEO Stephen Holmes said.

“We now have villages in Ainslie, Batemans Bay, Crace, Farrer, Fisher and Monash.

“Our Downer Village is also taking shape and will welcome residents in early 2026.”

A Goodwin spokesperson said the Araluen retirement village had an excellent reputation for its build quality and range of amenities.

It has 109 single-level villas, a heated pool and spa, and a clubhouse boasting inclusions the community has come to expect from Goodwin’s retirement villages, according to the spokesperson.

“I have no doubt the Araluen residents are in great hands,” one of Canberra Retirement Villages’ directors, John Bradley, said.

“Goodwin has been an integral part of the Canberra community for 70 years and its reputation speaks for itself.”

The Goodwin spokesperson said the not-for-profit organisation’s primary focus was to provide its residents with a lifestyle of choice and respect.

“In 2021, Goodwin acquired the Manor Retirement Village on the South Coast of NSW,” Mr Holmes said.

“This provided us with valuable insights into the process of integrating staff and residents into our organisation.

“We are confident that under the new name Goodwin Village Araluen, the residents will experience a smooth and transparent transition period, and we wish to welcome them into the Goodwin family.”

Owned by members who are mostly residents, Goodwin has become the ACT’s largest locally based not-for-profit aged care provider since starting in 1954.

It has won numerous awards at prestigious functions, including the 2022 Master Builders ACT Awards, the 2021 Future of Ageing Awards, the 2019 Leading Aged Care Services and 2019 COTA ACT Positive Ageing Awards.

“It’s our people who’ve helped build Goodwin’s reputation for quality care and dedicated service. They’ve further deepened Goodwin’s links to the Canberra community,” Mr Holmes said.

“We’ve grown to become one of the capital’s largest non-government employers, and today employs people across many different professions.”

Meanwhile, construction of the 129-dwelling Goodwin Village Downer started earlier this year.

Located around the corner from the Dickson shops, the four-storey village will offer a range of shared amenities, including a clubhouse, gym, library, landscaped gardens and alfresco dining areas, as well as an on-staff lifestyle officer.
