Hot water system stopped working – Possible scam?

BK 25 June 2020 5

My gas hot water system stopped working (before the storms and gas heating still working) and the same day in the mail i get a fridge magnet for a hot water system and gas repair group.

I do not want to dirty the company name but… coincidence?

Just wondering if any others out there in the same situation? I am on the North side

Bogong Moths always put mine out. They just love to blue glow from the flame of the pilot light.

My pilot goes out with this crappy weather.

That reminds me, better remind the agent again.. Again again

Just a pretty fair chance that the strong winds have blown out your pilot light.

You can pay someone to come and chaeck and re-light it, or you can do it yourself. You might need to refer to documentation to do it, which might involve research, and if that’s all too much then you might need to go back to option number one.

Did your neighbours get a magnet too?

That is intriguing, and it would certainly be potential for a scam.

Years ago I heard about a scam where someone would walk around in a high-vis vest looking like a meter reader. They would trip a few circuit-breakers or cut some fuses in your meter box, and then pop a flyer in the mailbox advertising electrical services. It would take them all of 5 seconds to diagnose and repair the issue (of course) and they’d charge you a healthy callout fee as well as a fee for “parts”.
