The Comrade has put out this Media Release on the release of 70,000 fingerlings into the ACT waterways.

More than 57,000 Golden Perch fingerlings were released into Lake Burley Griffin in association with the National Capital Authority, while the ACT Government released another 10,000 into Gungahlin Pond.

Given another 2-3 years they’ll be right for catching for those inclined.

Do you need some sort of licence to fish in Canberra’s lakes?

James-T-Kirk2:20 pm 26 Oct 09

Hmmm – Wonder if the Cotter expansion will disrupt this?

I heard about this during the fishing segment on 666 last Friday arvo (it’s every Friday around 4pm). The government says they do it mainly as a resource for anglers, but also because it’s good for the Lake environment to have lots of fishies eating the bugs. They said that anglers who think lake fish taste like mud (as opposed to the fish in fast-flowing rivers or the sea) are missing out on the fun of local fishing.
