Thumper has sent in the below photo taken by his son on the 60th Anniversary of VP Day. That’s a “Kittyhawk, followed by a Spitfire, then a P51 Mustang, a stunningly beautiful Canberra [Meteor], and a big nasty FA18.

The display showed it flying even slower, but it did have its nose pointed at 30 or so degrees with a heap of power on – basically relying entirely on thrust to hold it in the air.

Im amazed the fA18 isnt at stall speed!

Even so, the F/A-18 display was outstanding.

and a big nasty FA18
actually our breed of FA18 is the smallest of the species of these particular birds

Ummm … great shot, but the stunningly beautiful Canberra is actually a stuningly beautiful Meteor.

Top stuff buddy!

Excellent photo: have you got any more to share?

I’d love to see some of the 20th Anniversary F/A-18 performing it’s maximum rate turn.

Great photo, Thumper!
(The spitfire’s only coming second though – I’m starting to think that this race is rigged)

Where was that taken from Thumper? Mt Pleasant, Mt Ainslie? Its a great angle to get all 5 of them in, I was up Mt Pleasant and there was a good view over the lake and airport, but my zoom wasnt good enough to get all 5 in shot with such clarity!

I imagine the kittyhawk was going flat out and the F-18 was on the edge of a stall to pull that off.
