The National Capital Authority is letting us know that Senator Lundy has opened “a new finger jetty” for the aquatic tentacle of the Southern Cross Club at Lotus Bay on Lake Burley Griffin.

Constructed by the National Capital Authority in conjunction with the Canberra Yacht Club, the jetty enables people with disabilities easier access to Lake Burley Griffin. It also improves boat launching and safety for all lake users.

Sailing is one of the main recreational sports on the lake. The jetty is also suitable for other watercraft such as dragon boats, canoes, kayaks and licensed power boats.

The new facility includes a 20 metre by 2 metre jetty, pedestrian paths, ramps and a stairway.

In opening the facility, Senator Lundy highlighted the Australian Government’s commitment to improving accessibility.

‘This facility provides improved access for all, to our magnificent Lake Burley Griffin.

‘The jetty is close to the water, allowing beginners and people with disabilities better access to Lake Burley Griffin.

I for one am thrilled they built the jetty close to the water.
