A man has been granted bail after he was accused of sending harassing messages to ACT cabinet minister Tara Cheyne over social media.
James John Griffin, 43, allegedly harassed Ms Cheyne over Facebook between 8 and 14 July 2024.
While he was taken for a mental health assessment when he first faced the ACT Magistrates Court earlier this week, the court heard no disorders had been identified when he returned on Wednesday (17 July).
Duty lawyer Natasha Goode did say a “stress response” could be a potential issue for her client.
She said he lived with and cared for his parent, was suffering from some “angst” and had been “distraught”.

Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker granted bail on conditions, including that he not contact Ms Cheyne directly or indirectly by any means, not be within 100 metres of the Legislative Assembly and not drink alcohol.
The matter was adjourned to 26 July. No pleas were entered.
Labor’s Member for Ginninderra, Ms Cheyne is also the ACT Minister for Human Rights, Arts and City Services.
