A man has been charged with animal cruelty after he attacked his ex-partner’s dog with a shovel on Wednesday evening (28 August).

Around 4.30pm, it is alleged a 27-year-old man attacked a dog belonging to his ex-partner with a shovel in the backyard of the residence in Macquarie. The dog was put down a short time later by a veterinarian due to the severity of its injuries.

At 10:50 pm on Friday (30 August), police located the man in Rivett where he was arrested and transported to ACT Watch House.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday morning (31 August) where bail was opposed.
