Metal for the Brain will after 15 years be finishing.

It has been announced that this year with be the final MFTB http://www.metalforthebrain.com/

The line-up has also been announced 41 bands on 3 stages. One hell of a long day.

It is a shame to be ending but even if Metal is not your cup of tea, its sad for Canberra to lose an internationally famous festival.

yeah I think alchemist have been doing it out of desire to give back to the local scene… which is very admirable… they could have just ditched their roots.. really hope someone takes it on!!

From my local office metalhead: It turns out most of Alchemist now live in Queensland, so doing this kind of organising long-distance can’t be easy, and we’re pretty much lucky they’ve agreed to go around for one more year. Particularly since the other thing my local metal-head mentioned was that the last MFTB allegedly only made around $10 total after everything was paid for.

Nah… their bass player is a silly over opinionated dickhead.. 😛

the BOM idea is a good one. we can shave those silly beards of their faces.

The MFTB website talks about the difficulties in finding venues and meeting all the logistics etc. I suspect its also taken a lot of time for Roy and the other boys of Alchemist and may be too much work for anyone trying to also have a life/paid job etc.

Nothing stopping anyone here approaching the current promoters with a view to taking over.

I can see it now “The RiotACT Metal for the….”

Lets get Barrel of Monkeys on at the aftershow…

i have no interest in metal, really, but this is a definite shame. hopefully something else can take its place?

this sucks…

I know there were noises about rising insurance costs making it more difficult a few years back. But I don’t know whether that’s the only issue, or even the major one. Anybody have any more info?

As a long time fan of MFTB, I can honestly say I am deeply disappointed about this. Yet, so far I have not come across a reason as to WHY it is ending now? There have been rumours in the past, but never an explanation. It’s a charity, so what’s the go? It’s sad that I wont have an annual metal gig to look forward to every year.
