New flight paths opened for Canberra Airport?

From about 5 am this morning (don’t know exactly as no clock in bedroom) a series of flights went low over my humble (lower) Red Hill abode…this hasn’t happened before (and no it wasn’t the Careflight helicopter, they always detour round my place since I got useful with the .303)….What gives, is it just the airport Czar giving us a taste of what it would be like once the Tralee estate gets the go ahead?

This will happen more and more. Air traffic to/from the airport IS increasing, and it’s coming in from all directions. Depending on prevailing winds, the planes can come in/depart in any direction.

I agree that building at Tralee would make the problem worse and I really think Qbn should re-think this, but no one is safe. There is no curfew, and there are NO curbs on Snow bringing anything he likes in from any direction at any time of night.

Jumbos from singapore at 2am.

As per another RiotACT post – it could have been the U.S. Defence mob. Depends on if it was a prop or relatively loud four-engined airplane (currently parked at the airport). Don’t quite know what it is though.

Frank Pangallo is against the airport going 24 hrs a day to service Sydney overflow though. Whereas sTanhope doesn’t seem to care what they do.

When cranky Franky Pangallo gets his way from his Labor-mates in Macquarie Street you in Canberra will be sharing a lot more of the noise. How stupid is Queanbyean Council, and especially Pangallo and his buddy Member for Monaro, Steve Whan for wanting to build housing developments under flight paths. Big Bob Winnel must be donating lots of money to Pangallo and Whan.

I think it was a Metroliner doing touch and goes.

Maybe testing…

@ramblingted:

Interesting that you should bring up this topic as yesterday (as a representative of the Gungahlin Community Council) I attended a meeting of the Canberra Airport Aircraft Noise Consultative Forum.

From the Canberra Airport Website “Ongoing aircraft noise issues and any new aircraft operational procedures established by regulators are discussed at the Canberra Airport Aircraft Noise Consultative Forum (CAANCF). The Forum meets three times a year at Canberra International Airport and includes representatives from Commonwealth, NSW, ACT and local government, Airservices Australia, the aviation industry, peak community organisations and Airport management.”

There are (non legislated) aircraft noise abatement areas covering a vast majority (but not all) of Canberra. If you wish to lodge a specific Aircraft noise complaint (such as the incident you have noted) you can use the AirServices Australia online noise complaint system. Though it asks for your personal details, I can confirm that your details are not passed back to the airport. (At the meeting yesterday, discussion regarding specific noise reports conveyed by representatives of ASA were referred in the terms of “a resident from suburb name”)

Airservices Australia also maintain an Aircraft Noise and Flight Path monitoring system which in a nutshell tracks Aircraft Noise events and where aircraft are actually flying. This means that an Aircraft Noise Complaint can be cross-correlated with actual data on where the aircraft was at the time.

Airservices Australia also publish quarterly reports of this data. The report summarises the data that is collected and presents it in diagrammatic, map and chart formats. (For example they map the actual aircraft arrive and departure flight paths over Canberra) It is a somewhat technical but interesting read.

They also forgot to turn silent mode on their chopper over Holt last night ivo ~10-12pm I say to the ether.

Tuggers was quiet as a mouse this morning!

Doesn’t Pottsy have his own airstrip on his massive Forrest block?

It could have been him.

You should move into Forrest with Pottsy. He wouldn’t have any trouble sleeping, planes deliberately avoid Forrest as it’s a classy suburb.

I got blasted by them as well but I’m in Campbell so don’t know if the incidents are related but they were prop planes.

Could have been the Rudmeister et al heading out west to address Indigenous housing while Brendan Nelson sits tight on Capital Hill…
