No more sprinklers from the end of February

johnboy 24 January 2007 54

ACTEW have announced that you’ve got one month left of being able to water your lawn before they take away the right to use that expensive system you got installed (the “exemption” ends on 28 February).

This while current restrictions are increasingly ignored and targets go flying by.

“Storages are now at 37.5 per cent. The average daily consumption since the introduction of Stage 3 on 16 December has been 169 megalitres, above the summer target of 139 megalitres per day.”

Hmm 30 megalitres a day over target, that’s missing by over 20%!

As a final comment from my side, I would like to say : At least I didn’t resort to petty name calling.

How Mature.

I-filed, I think you totally missed the point of Crispin’s column. What he was saying is that the odds and evens system is stupid (something most people have thought for ages) because most irrigation systems work on days of the week rather than calendar numbers. His suggestion was that even houses be allowed to water on Tuesday, Thursday and sprinklers on Saturday and odd houses on Wednesdya, Friday and sprinklers on Sunday and no one gets to water on Mondays. Made sense to me.

My front lawn has tumbleweeds blowing across it, and I’m positive that a family of gila monsters have moved in….

Needless to say it’s as dry as the Gibson Desert

(insert a comma and the words ‘I mean’ between yard and dirt)

schmerica_ schmerica_ 9:52 pm 28 Jan 07

Sorry guys, I make love, not war.

I’ll have to jump on the landslide here and back Mael also.

I’m doing my part in water conservation… I don’t water my yard dirt patch anymore.

Schmerica or Nyssa could be the Round girls

I’ve had 3 kids, I think Schmerica would be the better choice.

Oh and my money’s on Mael.

Or if you don’t actually have a spinkler system you run out side in the dark every 15 mins to move the bloody sprinkler around…

Did anyone notice that Crispin Hull wrote an idiot column in the Canberra Times the other day complaining that his sprinkler system couldn’t be programmed to sprinkle for THREE HOURS TWICE A DAY! No wonder we have water problems when someone supposedly bright doesn’t get that the regulator’s intention was that you water ONCE on the day you can – morning OR evening. Not for six solid hours!

A family member in Syd had damage to the footings/wall of his house, the suspect being a large tree in the front yard. A Council arborist inspected, confirmed the tree was the culprit and explained that a tree of this size pulled 1000 litres of water a day from the soil just to survive.

Makes the 5000 litre water tank look pretty insignificant.

Mael, can’t you distinguish between a common phrase and an insult?

Maelinar Maelinar 3:25 pm 25 Jan 07

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if it don’t rain your tank wont fill. – Comment by Dagget — 24 January, 2007 @ 5:13 pm

Perhaps you should get one installed in your head to raise the cellcount to 2. Comment by Maelinar — 25 January, 2007 @ 8:01 am

Where I am currently located, there’s an interesting bar which would be useful for this match-up. The other night as I drove home I noticed the headline fight was between Shampoo and Tinsel.

Carry on, don’t mind me.

Thumper Thumper 2:27 pm 25 Jan 07

How about a boxing ring?

First on the card could be VG and Big Al, followed by Mael and Daggett.

Schmerica or Nyssa could be the Round girls. Kerces could photograph it and JB could write it up.

Anyone want to be the caller?

My money would be on Mael…

can you get a room please

Someone put a padlock on the mini-bar.

johnboy johnboy 2:14 pm 25 Jan 07

offtopic guys, can you get a room please?

Dagget Dagget 2:09 pm 25 Jan 07

I like to think of myself as open to constuctive criticism, or even flaming in a public Blog.
But my intelligence was never the issue.

I never threw the first stone by the way.
You did Mael , by suggesting I could double my IQ by installing a water level sensor in my skull.

Maelinar Maelinar 1:53 pm 25 Jan 07

Yeah – what he said. Read your own comments first though. That I’m living in a bubble was the first stone thrown. I merely threw one back.

I also have a rule – Thumper can back me up on this, I throw something bigger back.

Sammy Sammy 1:41 pm 25 Jan 07

And before you make desparaging remarks about my intelligence

Dagget, here at Riot-Act (or the ThunderDome) the first thing a lot of participants do — upon being challenged — is to question other participants intelligence. Don’t take it personally.

we got some lovely rainfall new years eve on the southside (oh some some nice hail that made a beautiful pattern in my car) but would have been nice if had of stuck around for at least a week or 2 to make some sort of itty bitty difference!

seepi seepi 9:22 am 25 Jan 07

We have had stuff all rain in North Canberra since last year. We got hardly any on NYE either.
