I was here on NYE . Got a total of 22 mm rain aroundmy part of Murrumbateman. not enough to make a impression in my tanks.

I am totaly aware of water saving/management devices, because unlike you Maelinar, I don’t have the luxury of townwater.

Seepi, I understand your point but when I hear my neighbour had been out for 20mins previously watering to me seeing him, it just drives me mental he has to be out wasting all that water!
I know tress need water, its just damn frustrating that in town we take these things for granted!

Lots of businesses will suffer if they do this – garden nurseries, the Canturf people etc – nope, they have watering exemptions. They can turn the tap on 24/7 and ogle at the wastage and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Yeah, we too have had to cut down a couple. I think my biggest worry is the mass amount of Pine Trees near our place. They are so dry now. Anyone know how they react to these conditions?

I have cut 2 gums down already. the Big One though which I planted when I knoew no better has already started to shed branches. Unfortunately it will die.

I now water the gardens every second day – I used to do them once per week. Why? Because I can.

For crying out loud, we live in a country that’s basically dry with periodic wet times. That’s the way it is. It hasn’t ‘suddenly stopped raining’, the way many of the fearmongering media would have us believe.

The restrictions will only affect those of you who obey the current ones.

You know why we won’t be using sprinklers from the end of February? Because from then on, according to the BOM people, el Nino will have eased and we’re going to get a s**tload of rain this autumn. (And autumn, for me, starts on March 1).

CouldExpire, your neighbour should stop watering grass for sure. But the tree is another story. Trees need a heap of water and it is so sad to see the 50 year old trees dying. Wateringthe trunk might look pointless, but that water will help to keep the tree alive – maybe your neighbour is trying to show that he is watering the tree, rather than the grass around it.

I just heard on the radio that Pru Goward is planning to get John Howard to change water laws so that Canberra has to share our water with Goulburn – cos we have so much to spare and all. Great.

My family and I are on nothing but tank / dam water and have to restrict out waterbased activities accordingly.

An open invitation to ACTEW or any member of the ACT Government:

Come install a rainwater tank at my house. I will use it to water my garden and flush my toilet instead of using good potable water.

The fact is you won’t do it until water storage is 0% which is fast becoming a reality. Perhaps it is time (ACT Govt) to repay the kickbacks you have been receiving for onselling the the water allocation to private industry and commercial interests, and to realise your true duty of supplying residential water, which is what taxpayers have been funding you to provide.

A rainwater tank installation at my property will probably merely cost the amount of money I pay you in water rates annually or over a 2 year period, and therefore will be revenue neutral.

Yeah, what a tosser! Damn those libertarians!

ACTEW’s incompetence never fails to dazzle me. We are not meeting targets under current restrictions, yet they think that their more draconian form of social control is suddenly going to work.
