Went to Sydney and back today and stopped at Goulburn Shell Merino for diesel. $136.9 per litre this morning in Goulburn got back to Canberra this evening and Cooleman Court servo $151.9 for diesel.

15 cents per litre for transport I don’t think so……

Petrol tends to be 10 cents or more a litre in Canberra compared to Sydney, largely because of “regional transport costs”, we are told. That kinda makes sense. Except that diesel in Sydney is usually the same or a few cents cheaper than Canberra. I don’t get that.

Note that only half the featured signs advertise LPG prices.

I refuse to shop at Shell/Coles purely for the fact that their boards are ridiculous to read.
No other petrol stations advertise “Discount Unleaded E10” on their boards. It’s always “Discount Unleaded” which is the 91 unleaded.
So from reading the Shell/Coles board one could assume that regular 91 unleaded doesn’t have a discount applied to it.

As someone who drives a car that takes premium fuel, this pisses me off too. Look at that Shell Tuggeranong sign. 2 prices are for the same thing and the other price is just without the E10. Why would you display 3 prices for basically the same bloody product? I don’t really expect them to be putting the price of every fuel they sell but a bit of variety would be good.

On a side note, why are they still pushing E10 anyway? It’s a useless fuel that has absolutely no benefits whatsoever. Not to mention the fact that not every car can use it anyway.

ethanol feedstock sucks CO2 out of the air as it grows prior to being re-released in combustion; fossil fuels don’t. Also most cars can use it.

They might as well advertise the price of a 350ml bottle of Coke on there.

Slightly unrelated but….why is petrol advertised with a decimal? It’s not like you could pay for $149.9. What does a .9 cent coin look like?

Without going into the whole ‘why’ and writing it out, how about this simple demonstration?

50 litres of 154.9 petrol = $77.45
50 litres of 154 petrol = $77.00
50 litres of 155 petrol = $77.50

Its the same reason why items on sale (as an example) $5.99 is more attractive than $6.00.

Woollies QBN was 143.9 (with a voucher).

$1.17 in Parramatta on the weekend (with 8c discount)
we need some independents again

Ordinary unleaded was 149.9 at the three service stations in Belconnen suburb for six months, the price did not move. How does that work.
