While many real estate professionals ‘agency hop’ in an effort to grow their careers, there’s one property family that is bucking the trend in Canberra.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Col McIntyre and Jo Matters, McIntyre Property team members are in it for the long haul.

“Unlike many of the big real estate offices, where you can have that dog-eat-dog scenario, we help out each other,” says Col.

“The team is my extended family essentially.”

Col and Jo host family Christmas parties, pizza nights and fun-filled evenings around the firepit at their home in Tuggeranong, where partners and kids are always welcome.

McIntyre Property has been operating in Canberra since 2007 and during the years the team has picked up ACT real estate industry awards for agency of the year, sales agent of the year and property management team of the year.

But Col says his business is not about the accolades and trophies.

“For us, it’s not about the numbers or winning awards, it’s about looking after our team,” he says.

“It’s nice to have a team around you that you know and have been with you for a long time.

“Many of our team members have hurdles in their life, and we’re always there for them.”

Lisa Konig has been with McIntyre Property for more than nine years and says while being a property manager can be a tough job, the close-knit team makes it easy to come to work each day.

“We are a big, happy work family that have a fun time doing what we do,” she says.

“Support is provided by not only Col and Jo, but the team as a whole. We look after each other.”

Lisa says her clients appreciate a team that “strives for the best”.

“We bring out the best in each other, we do what we say we will do, and we are great communicators,” she says.

“Our clients get to deal with one person rather than many people doing different things, and they get consistency. I am not going anywhere!”

Lisa is Col’s longest-serving staff member.

“Lisa would do anything for us,” he says. “She’s always got our back, and we always have Lisa’s and our team’s back.”

Sales consultant Colin Blunden has been at McIntyre Property for more than eight years. He says he enjoys being on the customer service frontline and working closely with clients to help them achieve their goals and dreams.

“In each of us there is huge pride in the McIntyre Property brand, and a focus to keep setting the highest of standards in our marketplace,” says Colin.

“Buying or selling a property is a life-changing decision so if my work helps someone achieve a goal or dream to make their life that little bit happier, I love that.”

Colin says he’s proud to be part of an agency with a strong, well-respected reputation and brand.

“Everyone I work with is a good person and always willing to help each other,” he says.

“McIntyre Property and I, we are a good fit.

“Col and Jo have always provided the platform and environment for not only myself, but all of my colleagues to continually be the best we can and enjoy coming to work.”

Col says Colin is “as honest as the day is long”.

“He’s just a lovely guy to be around and does the right thing by everyone, whether that’s our staff or our clients,” he says.
