Skywhale, arguably the world’s most famous hot air balloon, will be part of University of Canberra Open Day on 31 August.
Created to celebrate the Centenary of Canberra, the distinctive Skywhale will make its return to the Capital with a tethered appearance near the Haydon Drive entrance to the campus during the Open Day event.
Weather permitting, it will be possible for members of the public to have tethered flights in the balloon in return for a donation to the Centenary charity Dollars for Dili.
UC Open Day will be Skywhale’s first visit to a university campus anywhere in the world and will see it take to the skies above Belconnen for the first time.
The University, which has been active in celebrating the Centenary, was pleased to invite the Skywhale to its Open Day to give more Canberrans and visitors to the city the opportunity to see the balloon for themselves.
Open Day will also feature course information, demonstrations of studios, labs and other facilities, competitions and appearances by players from the UC Brumbies.
