Unlike many urban art pieces, you get to see this one coming together.
A large block of granite in the centre of Veterans’ Park is being carved by two guys into a piece vaguely reminiscent of those Soviet bloc heroic pieces. I think the location and back to back subjects tell a fairly clear story.
Interestingly straight out of the grass. No plinth.
And no doubt sure to annoy the lunch time boot campers!
And her Chiefliness has launched the piece.
This sculpture (which I’ve only seen in the photos) makes me appreciate Keizo Ushio’s “dream lens for the future” just that little bit more.

Wander on down, they are working on it this very minute – under a tarpaulin. If you don’t like noise I suggest you wear earplugs.
Bunda and Mort…
Would love to go out and watch these guys doing this where is Veteran’s Park????
Corner of northbourne and bunda
It does appear to have some Soviet blocness about it.
Did Stanhope specifically order it before retiring?
It looks like mum is not amused while dad is out the back taking a dump.
