Have you noticed how COVID-19 has slowed the world down? Frantic lives, peppered with short-stay getaways to Bali, New Zealand or Singapore before launching back into the reality of life are over.
But we can’t use our frequent flyer points and everyone in Canberra is on the road throughout regional NSW. So can you just stay home?
Turns out that more and more, Canberrans are choosing to do just that, including Amy and Simon Phillips and their three children. Their Murrumbateman house, now on the market with home.by.holly, is the perfect place to snuggle up, wind down and rest up.
The couple’s 1.2 ha property at 7 Rattenbury Close in the Jiparu Estate is more like a five-star country resort.
With five cavernous bedrooms, four bathrooms, a conservatory, bar and three internal, separate living areas including a pool room, luxuriating is easy in this meticulously crafted home.
Add a saltwater solar-heated pool, gym, cellar, stunning alfresco dining space and cabana, as well as sculptured gardens and garden sculptures, and Amy says it’s easy to embrace the “holiday at home” ethos.
It’s the perfect ‘Staycation’ destination, defined by Wikipedia as “a period in which an individual or family stays home and participates in leisure activities within day-trip distance of their home and does not require overnight accommodation”.
“Whether it’s having an impromptu dinner, drinks or nibbles with the neighbours, playing basketball or walking the dogs, the home is so beautiful, we just don’t want to go anywhere,” Amy says.
COVID-19 also imposed an unexpected “staycation”, according to Amy.
“In February, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which was a huge life-changing moment.” Come March, when the pandemic hit, Simon left his job to care for her and the kids (aged 16, 15 and eight) were destined for remote schooling.
“As I was recuperating, all I could think of was how sad I felt for the people who were stuck on a 400 square metre block who couldn’t go anywhere,” Amy says. “When it comes to lockdown, this is the best place to be.”
Amy says she’s “come out the other end” of her treatment and her family is ready for the next chapter of life’s journey.
The family has put their house on the market and will be moving to somewhere funky and urban with a totally different vibe.
Selling agent Sally Strang of home.byholly says the staycation trend is getting stronger, which means the real estate market is getting hotter.
“People are paying a lot more attention to the way they live, so they can spend more time there,” she says.
The magnificent home at 7 Rattenbury Close at Murrumbateman will be auctioned on 29 October 2020 at 6:30 pm. You can find this beautiful home and other hot listings on Zango. For further information or to book an inspection, contact Sally Strang from home.byholly 0410 626 731.
