Storm Cloud 26/2/08 - anyone have pictures??

i was running down black mountain at the time, geeze it was an amazing view – if only i ran with a camera.

I was on the roof on the Canberra Centre at about 8:30-9:00pm on my way home when I noticed it. I tried to take some video footage with my camera phone to no avail. Amazing though – I was up there for about an hour during the time the lightning was going crazy.

In my first photo (Posting as danman obviously) you can see the passenger jet trail that everyone is talkin about going through the frame.

Re: Doctor Evil comment about the jet – I might have seen the same jet…it did look close.

However, the storm was just north-east of Braidwood, so the jet departing Canberra was actually still miles west of the cloud.

GCC VP Jonathon and I had a great view of the cell from the hill behind Wells Station. He sent a pic in to RA last night…
The way the lightning wrapped up around the outside of the thunderhead was v. cool.

I had front row seats for The Supercell (AKA “The Braidwood Thing”) and bunged a few shots up on the Weatherzone forums.

Forgot to mention that a passenger jet flew very close to the cloud while I was filming it, what a cool view they must have had…….

I thought War of The Worlds was finally happening, the idea of which is slightly less horrific than Tom Cruise’s acting in the remake.

If I can manage to get the stupid DV editing software working properly i’ll post up some video.

wasnt that just breathtaking! If it split down the middle and some type of UFO appeared I wouldnt have been surprised (too many sci fi movies) it actually reminded me of one of those electricity conducting sulpher balls that everyone had in the 90’s
