Murrumbateman wineries and producers have again teamed up to host the Murrumbateman Moving Feast: a weekend celebrating the best of food, wine and local produce in the area.
Makers of Murrumbateman president Bobbie Makin, who also owns Murrumbateman Winery, said they were looking forward to showing off the area’s businesses.
“The idea is to get people out experiencing how much this region has to offer and how diverse the offers are, along with lovely food, a great atmosphere and music over the weekend,” he told Region.
“This year we have 11 venues offering savoury and/or sweet dishes over the feast weekend.”
Local wineries have designed dishes that will complement one of their wines, bringing out the best flavours. Try Mary’s homemade beef and Guinness stew with creamy mash, served with the 2022 Good Soldier Shiraz Cabernet at Tallagandra Winery, or cassoulet with green bean salad and Shiraz at Yarrh Wines.
Vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are available at most venues on request, so check out the menu on the website before you visit.
Many of the wineries also have a dessert dish on offer. Gallagher Wines is serving up a glazed orange cake with award-winning whipped vanilla labneh, paired with the family-owned business’s Sparkling Duet. And Barton Estate will be making a rich dark-chocolate mousse served with raspberries matched with Sparkling “Glen” Malbec.
At Murrumbateman Winery, Bobbie has called in the big guns for dessert.
“My mum is coming up for the weekend and she’s a pretty great chef, so she’ll be cooking up a slow-baked mango and passionfruit cheesecake and a side of salted caramel popcorn and paired with Molly’s Sauvignon Blanc, the proceeds of which support the local RSPCA.”
Wine and food lovers are encouraged to visit several venues across the weekend. The food dishes are around an entree size, so you can fit in plenty of choices (especially if you share them with friends!)
“Maybe people will visit one place for savoury and another for sweet. It’s designed as a roving degustation, so hopefully people will go out and explore more than just one venue and really see what we have to offer,” Bobbie said.
“There’s a passport for participants which they can collect from their first stop. If they get three stamps, they will go into the running to win a hamper full of local wines and chocolates.”
This event is a popular regional celebration and this year’s offering promises to be another delicious time.
The Murrumbateman Moving Feast will be held on October 5 and 6 at various venues in the Murrumbateman region. For more information and to see the menus on offer, visit the Makers of Murrumbateman website, or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.
