Change isn’t spontaneous – it’s a journey. The pace at which the environment, technology and culture are evolving has never been more apparent and, in order to keep up with such a rapidly changing world, we need to take stock of where we have been and where we want to go. Though change is ever-present in our lives, the beginning of a new year gives us the perfect opportunity to think about how we might like to do things differently and resolve to make the improvements we want to see in ourselves, our community and the world.

In 2018, Belconnen Arts Centre will be undertaking its own metamorphosis, as we begin building a new community theatre space and galleries. A long-held aspiration finally come to fruition, this exciting renewal will bring a host of challenges and opportunities, and our new year’s resolution is to share the journey with you; now, we’re inviting you to do the same with us!

Belconnen Arts Centre is welcoming contributions from the community to our In Transit Unframed open exhibition. Artists, from the absolute novice to the seasoned professional, are asked to explore their ideas of transition and transformation on unframed A3 paper with a sense of play, imagination, boldness or contemplation. Much like the beginning of a new year, a blank sheet of paper is full of possibility. It has an authenticity that reflects our hopes and aspirations, as yet unframed by the year to come, raw edges proudly on display.

In Transit Unframed will be our final exhibition before we farewell the Belconnen Arts Centre of the past and eagerly look towards its next chapter. Alike in size but diverse in inspiration, works will be on display from Friday 16 February 2018 in Belconnen Arts Centre’s Foyer Gallery, with all works eligible for consideration of the $500 People’s Choice Award. Works may utilise drawing, painting, printmaking, photography or mixed media, with the only limit being your imagination. Entries are due no later than 4 pm Monday the 5th of February 2018, and the fine print and entry form can be found at belconnenartscentre.com.au/transit.

Like paper, we must go through a process to change. Moving through that process can make us feel vulnerable, but sharing the journey makes us stronger and more committed to reaching our goals. We can’t wait to see what you share with us for In Transit Unframed!

What changes do you want to see happen in 2018?

– Jack Lloyd and Skye Rutherford.
