There are plenty of exciting things to see and do this week, especially if you’re looking for Christmas-themed events, live music, comedy shows, basketball games, carols, markets and more.

The annual Carols by Candlelight event is back in 2022, Human Nature is performing at Canberra Theatre, a famous British stand-up comedian is coming, the UC Capitals have a home game and there are German Markets at the Harmonie Club.

Canberra Christmas Market

When: Saturday 10 December and Sunday 11 December, 9 am to 4 pm
Where: Fitzroy Pavilion, Exhibition Park, Canberra
Cost: Free entry and free parking.

The Canberra Christmas Market is one of the capital’s oldest and most established markets. These festive markets feature local creators, designers, and artisans selling gifts, art, decorations, stocking fillers, fashion, and even fun pressies for pets.

Delicious holiday puddings, specialty preserves, and other festive food – all made with love – will delight foodies and make holiday meals all the more special.

The Canberra Christmas Market is a chance to buy local and buy unique while enjoying a fun day out with family and friends.

Carols by Candlelight

When: Saturday 10 December, from 7 to 10 pm
Where: Commonwealth Park, Canberra
Cost: Free

One of Canberra’s favourite, free, Christmas community events is making its way back to Stage 88 at Commonwealth Park this weekend.

Carols by Candelight was last held at full capacity in 2019 and 10,000 people attended. With support from the Canberra community on GoFund Me, the event is finally back in all its glory for 2022.

Go along with your family and friends, sit back, relax and listen to your favourite festive tunes performed by the Woden Valley Youth Choir.

Leisa Keen – The Canberra Wine House

The award-winning singer, actress and piano player Leisa Keen is performing this Saturday evening in Dickson.

She has been in the Australian music industry for more than 25 years, with involvement in jazz and musical theatre/cabaret, as well as trained in classical piano for the past 12 years.

As one of Canberra’s, Sydney’s and the Gold Coast’s most sought-after accompanists, musicians and musical directors, Leisa will take the stage at The Canberra Wine House this Saturday for a four-hour show.

Ginninderry Christmas in the Park

Taking place this Saturday evening is the Ginninderry Community’s Christmas in the Park celebrations.

Bring your friends and family to Paddy’s Park for an afternoon of live music, Christmas carols, kids activities, photos with Santa, plenty of food, market stalls and more.

Round 5 WNBL: UC Capitals v Sydney Uni Flames

When: Saturday 10 December 2022 at 3 pm
Where: National Convention Centre, Canberra

Back at home after three games on the road, Kristen Veal’s UC Capitals are ready to impress their loyal fans at the National Convention Centre.

The Flames finished last on the ladder last season but have retained key players and brought in a few big guns. Boasting the likes of Shyla Heal and Keely Froling, the UC Capitals will be looking to the three-point prowess of Brit Smart, the hustle of new U.S import Nicole Munger and former Flames Bec Pizzey and Sherrie Calleia.

GABS Campaign Kickoff Party

It’s that time of the year again, the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Poll is back, and Capital Brewing Co is on a mission to become world famous … in Australia.

To celebrate this, they will be throwing a campaign kick-off party this Sunday.

There will be plenty of live music to enjoy from artists and bands including Mangrove, Endrey, Miroji, Smart Casual and Koebi Faumui, as well as live comedy from Tom Gibson and Hamish Hudson.

The English comedian Alan Graham Carr is coming to the Canberra Theatre this Sunday for a one-off show.

The stand-up, award-winning comedian is most known for co-hosting The Friday Night Project, his entertainment show Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong, the comedy chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man, as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK to name a few.

His new stand-up show, Regional Trinket has toured all over Australia and Canberra is his last stop before he heads overseas. Bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening of laughter at the theatre this Sunday.

The Harmonie German Club is hosting its summer markets this Sunday from 9 am.

Here you’ll be able to buy from a variety of food stalls selling homemade cakes, deli goods, groceries, wine, beet, schnapps and authentic and much-loved German sausages.

There will also be plenty of entertainment for the whole family, including a jumping castle for kids.
