My highlight of the week is getting to try out a new breakfast spot! This week I headed north to Satis in Watson. Before going to any new cafe I try to check them out online to see whether they have a webpage or Facebook page.
Satis have a Facebook page that isn’t overly active, maybe one or two posts a month of their cake fridge, and their About section, boasting wholesome eats and fair trade coffee, so I was intrigued!
I really wanted to love Satis, really. The décor is right up my alley, they have a lovely warm front area bathed in sunlight and very welcoming. Unfortunately a few things let them down.
Firstly, no eftpos. I don’t understand how there are still cafes and restaurants that don’t accept eftpos in this digital age. So I had to go to the only ATM, which charged me $2.80 to make a withdrawal.
Cash in hand I ordered my breakfast and coffee, the breakfast menu isn’t huge, there’s about 8 items. I chose poached eggs on toast with bacon and a large flat white to wash it all down.
My coffee came almost immediately and my food about 20 minutes after that, which I thought was a long time considering they were not at all busy. The coffee was good, the right temperature and creamy yet strong in flavour.
The service wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. None of the staff were particularly friendly; they just managed the bare minimum, nothing memorable.
The dish itself was really good, eggs poached perfectly, bacon cooked well and bread was pretty tasty as well. I wasn’t a fan of the tin dish/bowl it was served it. It was a pain to try cut into the bread because of the curved up edges, but the plate suited the décor so it’s a toss up.
All in all it was an OK experience, I wouldn’t rush back, but if you’re a conscious eater and want somewhere with organic coffee, vegetarian and vegan options it’s worth a try.
