News:
Bad: I am advised that Northern NSW band, The Remains, who have close connections with a number of local musicians, were involved in a nasty accident involving a full van with trailer containing all the band gear, a highway at night and a cow. It sounds horrific. We hope for the best.
Good: I am also advised that Yo, erstwhile bassist for Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens, has emerged from months of physio after an awful car crash and has been seen, out and about and doing well, at a local gig here and there.
Good: I went to Cack YaSelf at The Front last night and was pleasantly surprised. Most of the comedy was smart, thought provoking and, most importantly, had the jam-packed room laughing uproariously at regular intervals. Finally, a home-grown comedy scene in Canberra. We will advise of future events there and a new venture at Soul Bar in Woden, and you can look forward to a comedy podcast and comedians appearing at the Backyard Backanalia (which commences on the fast approaching 29th Sep).
Graft:
Not one, not two, but four tickets to give away to the Ocean Moses gig at The Merry Muse: Simply reply with ‘I promise to go to the Muse if I win’. It’s Friday the 13th so… um… leave your superstitions at the door. And dress up if you like.
I seem to remember the name Taxiride from the not so distant past. Seems they’re still going and will appear at The Venue on Wednesday. The taxi ride to Erindale from anywhere civilised will set you back around $30, but you can save that much on the ticket price by replying with ‘free taxi’.
